About The Reading Center

The Reading Center was founded on a simple conviction: families deserve clear, honest answers about their child's reading — and a path they can act on.

If you've found your way here, you may already know the quiet worry of watching your child struggle to read and not knowing why. A clear, honest answer changes that — and helping families reach it is the whole reason our practice exists.

The Experience Behind the Work

Behind every assessment is more than two decades of experience in education and reading intervention, with clinical training in evidence-based, structured-literacy methods grounded in the science of reading.

That background is what lets a single visit produce a precise picture of how your child reads — not a label, but an understanding of exactly where they're strong, where they're stuck, and what to do next.

We come to you, and we keep it calm and unhurried. Your child works one-to-one in a place where they're comfortable — often your own kitchen table — with patient, friendly attention and no sense of a test to pass or fail. Most children settle in within minutes, and you're nearby the whole time. You'll leave the visit understanding your child's reading more clearly than you ever have.

What a Visit Feels Like

Grounded in the Responsive Diamond Model

Our work is grounded in the Responsive Diamond Model — a framework for reaching every reader, including the ones a standard system quietly misses. It's the same thinking that reliably identifies the children who need intensive support, and it's what you leave with: documented findings and a plan you can bring to your child's school. We come to you, across Greater Portland and Central Maine. The assessment is the whole point — clarity first, and a plan you can act on right away.
